New Printer Issues

SUGGESTED

My company is running an old version of BusinessWorks - Ver. 12.  Up until now we had an older HP 5P printer attached to print reports and checks.  Well the printer finally died and we upgraded to an HP M401dne.  It is connected to our network and prints fine from multiple computers and programs.  The problem is printing reports through BusinessWorks.

When I try to print a report, whether I'm printing to screen, a chosen printer, or to a file I encounter an error.  It says something like:

BWWAP caused a General Protection Fault in module MZPV.DLL at 0005:03D8.  Choose close.  BWWAP will close.

OR

BWWAP caused a General Protection Fault in module SDE3016.DLL at 0001:358E.  Choose close.  BWWAP will close.

It will not allow me to run a report in any manner.  Am I dead in the water or is there a fix for this?  Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!

I think the HP printer driver is causing the GPF.

Find a PDF writer (Abbyy, Adobe etc) program and Install, use it to print to and then print the report from Adobe Reader. Yes it will be a pain.

By any chance are you still running Win XP?

This worked!  It gave me 2 pop ups saying Unhandled Exception, but it still managed to write the PDF.  Thank you!!

And yes, I am still on Windows XP.  Someday I'll get them to upgrade my computer, but today is not that day ;)

I glad it help, I know it did not "solve" the problem (added extra steps)  but being a 10+ year old program and unsupported operating system, it was the only thing I could give as a work around.

    Hi,

Thank you solved  my similar situation, XP Pro, BW Ver 12, but CutePDF instead and it worked fine. You're a genius.

Laura- I am glad to hear the PDF print option is working for you.  If you do continue to have issues, I wanted to pass on this information  you may want to try as well:

Protoview errors occur when a conflict exists in the .DLL files used by Sage BusinessWorks version 12 and another product that is currently active on the computer or running in the background. This error may also indicate that a .DLL (Dynamic Link Library) file was not properly initialized.

Rebooting usually clears the message. If error persists or occurs in the Sample or Demo company after the reboot, reinstall the Sage BusinessWorks program files.

Although both V12 and XP are no longer supported or tested, this does give you some things to try if you continue to have problems.
