Report Engine Error 000000513 - Invalid Printer Specified

SOLVED

After installing a new computer for someone, she now repeatedly runs into this error. It'll work fine for a bit, then start giving these errors.

I've completely uninstalled BV and re-installed it, I've completely uninstalled the printer and re-installed it, I've given her a new printer, I've shortened the name like one forum post suggested. Strange thing is, she can print fine to the photocopying machine.

Besides smashing her computer with a rock, does anyone have any other suggestions? Everything worked fine before I swapped her machine.

This error can occur if an invalid printer is specified for the report. Since this is a new computer, you will need to go to your Control Panel...Devices & Printers. Can you see the printer that you want the form to print to? If not, then you have found the problem and you will need to connect to or install the printer driver (if connected to this PC).

If problems persists, then BV cannot find the printer you are trying to print to.

    Go to File...Printer Setup...Print Properties.

On the left hand column, highlite the form you are trying to print.

In the Print To box select "Printer". Remove any check mark in the "use default" box and click on "Select Printer".

You will be prompted for the appropriate printer. Save these settings and reprint your form once again.

Note: This error can also be caused by an invalid printer driver. Try reinstalling the printer driver or install a basic HP LaserJet printer driver.

Note: This error can also be caused by a printer name that is too long. Rename the printer name to a shorter name.

    Hi Eric,

Q1. You are able to print from other programs? Word, Excel, etc

Q2. What is the O/S you are running, and what is the printer make and model?

Q3. What version of BusinessVision you are running?

Q4. Is the MFP (Photocopying Machine) the default printer on this particular computer?

    Hey there,

A1: Everything else will print to this printer fine

    A2: Windows 7, HP P3035

    A3: CSE 2013 - 7.63

A4: It is now since since BV seems to hate everyone.

I think I'm just going to reformat this machine since now all the drivers are *** up.

Thanks Sage, your programs cause me constant rage outbursts.

    Hi Eric,

Sorry to hear how frustrated and upset you are.

This is one where it would be easy to actually be there and see, then do it all from forums.

    Hi Eric,

we have the exact same issue here and have concluded there is no fix for the problem. We are using terminal server set up with BV and having the print option set to printer just does not work. What I did was set  the default print setting to "screen" the user then previews what they are printing and can print...it is an extra step but at least you can print and not waste time trying to fix something that will never work

    Hi Eric and Ricky,

There is an issue where Sage BusinessVision cannot print directly to some printers and returns error 513. If you are still using version 2013 or lower, please upgrade to 2014 7.7x since it is fixed in version 2014.

    Hope it helps.

    hi Cat,

The BV is printing the report details, but not the packing the slip (Ctrl+K) after new printer is installed. why is this ? any idea to fix this?

    Hi Galdwin,

It's because Sage fails to support older versions of BV...

I have a feeling it's a driver issue with the printer, so I've stopped installing new drivers for them. If you can find an old driver for the printer, it's possible you can get it running again. Unfortunately HP doesnt do this, so Ive had to replace the printer with a Dell printer.
