I recently purchased a book from a book store issued by Pearson Canada Publishing called "Using Sage Simply Accounting 2012" which comes with data files on DVD and download instructions to download the Student Version of the software from Sage. I have had no problems downloading the software, registering the software, and copying the data files into a SageData12 directory on my hard drive. In the first chapter of the boo in getting started when I try to access the start file as directed I get a pop up message " Cannot open company file C:\SageData12\Start\start.SAI. There is an error connecting to a database." There seems to be a problem accessing the sample data. I am using the Premium Version 2012 - Student Version, and data files provided for that version. I tried to open other data files but get the same message. Any ideas what the problem might be.

Since you cannot even open the sample company, you may try to disable the window firewall and any security software first. Then, please try to open the sample company again.
