Database Upgrade

To better protect your company data, we have upgraded the Sage 50 Accounting database from 5.6.10 to MySQL 5.7.18 for version 2018.0. As a result of the security upgrade, the database conversion may take longer than previous versions.

Installation

As long as you are connected to the Internet and your service plan is current, the product update will download in the background, and you will be prompted to install it when you exit Sage 50. You will not need to enter a new serial number, key code (activation key), or payroll ID.

We recommend that you agree to install the update as soon as possible to always be working on current software.

The Sage 50 Accounting (version 2018.0) product update will be installed in a new folder, and you can continue to use your previous version. Once installed, you will notice two desktop icons, one for Sage 50 Accounting 2017 and one for Sage 50 Accounting 2018.

Richard I got an email too but I could open it.  But it's telling me that my Sage50 service has lapsed and is running on an unsupported format.  I'm on 2017.2 so any ideas?

Just a general comment on this: I guess some firms would want clients being prompted for updates (I realize there's an option to disable), but since the server-side components need to be updated first, I'm not exactly sure of the point of having the clients newer than the server, a scenario which could easily occur.

Which brings me to another point: is there a notification system of any kind (email, RSS) that alerts admins to the availability of new install media (in order to update the server), or must we just randomly revisit the download page to check?

Was this an email you received from a Sage sales's rep? What was the person's name so I can confirm. If you are with the account Swab Master then your service plan is good until 11/29/2017 but is set to auto renew with a credit card. This shouldn't affect you getting 2018.0 once it's been released in the next week/week in a half however.

So far your account does not have any 2018 serial and activation codes, so I wouldn't install it just yet or else your EFT / Payroll services won't be accessible.

The message tried to open in Internet Explorer and the page wouldn't display. The SAGE analyst Eric told me to copy the url and paste into a different internet thing. I copied and pasted into Google Chrome and was able to view the message. What Richard posted above is the page that was shown.

The information I posted was based on a link a client sent me.  I am assuming because of the similarity to the message I received in my own software, that this came from the Message Centre in my client's program.

Consultants usually get the messages a few days before clients so we have an idea of what is coming and can get further information if we need it.

Normally you just open the program and the message pops up in front of you when it becomes available, but if you don't watch for it and leave the program open on it's own, it will go away after a short period.  In this case you can tell a new message has shown up by looking at the envelope in the status bar in the lower right side of the Home Screen in the Message Centre on the Maintenance menu.  For upgrade notices, you can start looking around the middle of the last month of each calendar quarter.
