Annual Renewal

Hi, I just received a call to renew my Sage 50 Premium for 2018 for almost $900!!

When I purchased 2017 at Staples Office Depot, it cost me $699....can I just purchase the 2018 version at staples again, and will my data be able to transfer over to the new one, or do I need to buy into this ridiculously expensive update they called me about??

No you do not have to buy into the higher price. What you should be doing is comparing what you are being offered from Sage as to what you can purchase at Staples. Was Staples a sale price? Is payroll included, required? Do you require the technical support? etc.

If you determine that the Staples purchase is for you then yes your data can be used. Do a backup in the current program. Install the new program and restore the data from the back up. The process will take a while as there is a significant change in the database for the new 2018 version.

Beckyt, in this case it is actually easier.  This should say

Do a backup in the current program. Install the new program, open the new program and open the data file you used in the previous version from the original location.

There is no need to restore the backup but I would always do the backup just in case something goes wrong.  The conversion to 2018 does take quite a long time due to the database version change.

Great, thanks Richard, even easier! I am picking up my program today and will do as you suggested tomorrow morning. Cross my fingers, no issues, as my internet signal here is really slow!
