We don't have a field specifically called "category," but there are other fields available to organize inventory items. There is the Item Type field, which is a user-defined field. There are also up to five custom fields available on the inventory record. Those are enabled on Maintain, Default Information, Inventory items. If you could elaborate on what you need I could direct you further.

thanks John, I know about the Item Type option and we use it as well but it's not enough.

Unfortunately, no. While our products have similar names, in reality the core programs are completely different. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I don't know if your software has the same 'type-to-find' as the Canadian software, we focused on getting consistent and more complete item descriptions, which made the 'categories' in our Sage 50 redundant for locating items during invoicing and purchasing.
