If you are receiving the error “Unable to open the company file” while trying to convert your data file from a previous version of Sage 50 to the 2014 version it could be caused by a firewall or antivirus software.

I had this problem going from sage 50 2013 to 2014 release 2. Since I had converted other companies without problem to 2014 release 1 I finally installed release 1 on another computer and the data converted fine. Then I moved it back over and converted to release 2.
