staring new year with simply 2010

SUGGESTED

does not process and get following error message  "company database could not be found or database engine not running"

    Hi,

I would suggest restoring your data base from before you started the new year, then then try running the Advanced Database Check from the Maintenance menu, then back it up again before re-starting the new year process.

If you have multiple users you will have to have the sysadmin password to do the Advanced Database Check.  If you don't usually log in with a user name and a password, you are being logged in as the sysadmin, and there is no password.

I hope that helps, please post back and / or tag the responses that helped you.

Thanks for response. I have done what you suggested and still get same errors

Please bear in mind, the majority of the responses in this forum are from volunteers.  Most cannot see your computer.

Some information that might help puzzle out what's going wrong:

The location of the Company File and the exact version of Simply Accounting from the Simply Accounting program, under File | Properties

Open the latest log file from your My Documents folder under Simply\DbVerifier\Logs, and copy any lines with errors on them, into your next post.

The software version is also shown under Help | About.

The exact version and Service Pack of Windows that you are running.

The version of the Connection Manager.

Some other things to try that might help:

Try restoring the file to another location, such as a USB drive.

Try turning off your security software's firewall.

If you have access to another computer, you could try installing the 2010 software on it, and try that.   That may isolate the problem to the Simply Accounting company data, or to the workstation's installation of Simply Accounting.

I hope that helps, too.  Please post back.

    Randy

Some aspects of troubleshooting are the same whether you're fixing a computer or a table saw.   The error message you posted just means that the thing that shows the data on the screen stopped working because it couldn't show the data on the screen.   If it was a table saw, I wouldn't yet know whether the breaker tripped or if someone tripped over the extension cord, or whether the saw motor burned out, or the belt came off, or snapped, or there's a utility pole down, or we didn't pay the bill.

I have tried on other computer, in other location (USB drive), and turning off firewall. Still same error message.

I am running Simply 2010 Version C (17.3.0.1), Connection manager version 2.2, file is located on my C drive(I am only user))

Try doing a copy/paste of your data file to your desktop. then open Simply and use the desktop data file to see if it will open that way.

Nope that didn't work. I have another separate company data file that I was able to start the new year with. That tells me computer is fine but something with particular data for this company. I've restored data and run advanced database check which shows everything is good but still get same error when I try to start a new year

    Hi NCB,

Simply thing first - restart the computer. After that try to open your company.

If you encounter problem, what about giving a chance to somebody.

    Thanks,

    Akhtar

That's been done. Still have issue.   Not sure what you mean by "what about giving chance to somebody"

    Some other ideas:

The software and the computer are not necessarily 100% because it works with another company file, but it is most likely a problem with the data.

Try the latest Sage 50 release as an evaluation.   Take a backup copy of your file on a memory stick and restore / update / convert it to the newest release.   Can you start a new yearend in that file?  If not, the data file may need repair.

If you have a license for a newer version of the program, you should install the latest one.   The issue that you are having with that one company file may have been related to a program bug in release C, that was fixed in Release D.

There is a newer version of the 2010 software here:

http://na.sage.com/sage-50-accounting-ca/support/product-and-payroll-updates/2010DO NOT install this unless you are 100% certain that the license you have is valid for release D of the 2010 software.

When you ran the 'Advanced Maintenance Check' there will have been a log created.   Even though the program said everything is fine, are there any error messages in that log?    (it's in your My Documents, under a folder called Simply\DbVerifier\Logs.  Any lines in the middle of the most recent log file, with messages other than "begin..." and "End..."  could indicate problems.

There are error logs in the company file's .SAJ folder.   Something in there may shed some light on what's breaking when you try to start a new year.

Restore an earlier backup to a temporary location, and try starting a new year

    Call Sage for support.

Tried latest Sage 50 release as evaluation.  Still cannot get it to work.  Error logs in SAJ folder haven't helped.

I would recommend calling Sage tech support for assistance at this point.  They should be able to offer some options to repair the file / extract the data.

I don't offer data repair services, search this forum and the Internet for companies offering those services.
