    Hi Sc@bell,

Sage 50 allows users to do transaction in both current and last fiscal year.

For payroll, please keep in mind that once you advance to a new calendar year (by changing the session date to 1/1/2014), you will not be able to do auto payroll on or before 12/31/2013, but you can still enter the source deduction (cpp, ei and tax) manually.

Suggestion to you is to make a copy of your data file by going to File, Save as. On the copy, you can key in the Dec payroll and get the auto deduction.  Then, when you advance your actual data to 2014 and need to come back and do payroll using the date on or before 12/31/2013, you can look at the entries you make in the data copy and manually enter the deduction.

    Hope this helps.

Do a 'Save As' and call new data files 'Company Name payroll 2013'. Then go back into your regular data files and change the date to the new year.

Also if your paychq date in Jan but payperiod is ending in Dec then the payroll is considered to be for Jan - not Dec - so you will need to use the 2014 payroll taxes. If payperiod is Dec and paychq will be dated Dec then do the Dec payroll first - after that is done then do the Save As for Dec 2013, then back to regular data files to move ahead to Jan date.

If you need to do the invoices first before the payroll then do a Save As and call it 'Jan2014 Invoices only, move the date ahead to Jan, post/print your invoices. When you have done the Dec payroll on your regular data files and moved the date into Jan, then you will need to repost the Jan invoices from the Jan2014 Invoices Only data files.into the regular data files.

I always do a Save As  called Company Name YearPayroll when I have finished payroll for the year and prior to moving date into Jan. That way if I find there are changes that needs to be made prior to doing the T4s I can make the changes required and then replicate them in the current data files.
