Error in rolling to a new year

I am trying to get into a new year, but I keep getting an error message saying "an error occured moving current year data to last year".  I have tried the advance database check, and the files are no longer stored in dropbox.  Any ideas?

What do you mean the files are no longer stored in dropbox, have you been running the Sage 50 files from drop box???
Do You have backups stored somewhere else; you do perform regular backup?
What version of Sage 50 are you using, and what OS are you running it on?

I had the files in dropbox so I could access them from a couple of different computers. I called Sage and they said that was the problem, so I moved them out of dropbox but I still can not roll forward. I do a regular backup, have restored one but it still won't move to a new year. I am on sage 50 premium 2017 running on Windows 10.

They meant that keeping your working forlder synchronized through DropBox was the cause of the damage to the file, not that DropBox was preventing the conversion at that moment.

Do you have any older backups from before you used DropBox?

Ok that makes sense! The guy in technical support did not explain it like that. Yes I have a backup I can restore and work from that. Phew!
So any suggestions on how to share a file if Dropbox will cause issues?

Do a backup, put the backup into DropBox, and pull the backup out to work on it.

Or use a high quality portable USB connected hard drive (NTFS format, no compression, encryption OFF!)

Or carry a laptop so that you only have one computer.

And in any case it's not a bad idea to do backups frequently and save them to some sort of online backup system every day.
