Pay Purchase Invoice error

I have been a user since 2007 and all of a sudden yesterday I am unable to access the pay Purchase Invoice module.  It appears to be downloading information then it errors out and says it detected a problem and windows will notify me when resolved (or something like that)  I am unable to open any of the payment modules now.  Any ideas?

Which version and Edition of Sage / Simply are you using, and on which operating system?

And what is the exact wording of the error message?

I'm using simply accounting basic 2007 and Windows 7. The message is "simply accounting by sage has stopped working."

I'm using Simply accounting basic 2007 and Windows 7. Error message "Simply accounting by Sage has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".

Try going into Maintenance --> Database Utilities --> Repair Security to see if that helps.

All Repair Security will do is delete all users except sysadmin.  The user settings may be corrupted and this might fix it but you will need to enter all users and their permissions again.

    Backup your file.

Then, log in as sysadmin and try selecting View, Customise Transaction Windows, Pay Purchase Invoices, Columns and uncheck any setting there.  Click ok and try to open Payments again.

If that doesn't work or if you can get into other modules but just not Payments, then it is possible to use the dbutil program.  But try the above first.

This didn't work...but thanks for trying.

This didn't work either.  but now that I think back just before this happened I did have to re customize one of my forms. I think it was my invoice. For some reason it reverted back to the original format with all the columns. I wonder if that has something to do with it?

Your best bet at this point is to search the Knowledgebase for this specific issue.  Use terms like "Payments can't open" or something like that.  I just looked and I can't find the dbutil program for my SA2007 version in my program folder so I think back then it might be on the original CD but not installed with the program installation.  However, you should be able to find an article about it's use if my memory is correct and the issue of not being able to get into Payments can be caused by window positions and column settings.

Otherwise, if someone else has any ideas....?

I have searched the knowledge base with no luck. I'm pretty sure I still have the original cd but at this point I think I should just upgrade. Hopefully this problem won't interfere with transfg my existing info!  Thanks again for your help.

Ultimately it is up to you how you attempt to fix the issue, but I certainly would not be paying out money for an upgrade if I didn't need it and there might be an alternative.  I have no idea if Sage has programmed the update process to correct the issue you have.  A copy of your file would have to be upgraded to test it.  If you know someone with the updated version, you might want to try that or you can hire a consultant to help.

Based on this article, I would suggest you use the dbutil program to make sure it eliminates any data-related issues first.  And of course, backup your file before you run dbutil on it.

The article has an SA 2007 section and names the dbutil program incorrectly.  The file you need is here.  I've uploaded it to my website so you can use it.  It was on the original CD in the Bin folder.

Save the file to your hard drive (I keep it in the Simply program directory - I'm not sure if it will run from somewhere else as I have not tried it).  Follow the instructions in the article (ignoring the CD stuff), then if it still will not work you can look at other options, either upgrading, data repair, etc.  If you decide to upgrade and it will not convert, I believe Sage will help you with the upgrade but they may delete all your historical information and leave you with the last two years.  I am not sure of their policy these days on this concept so you might want to ask first.

Hi Richard.  I couldn't open your dbutil file nor can I open it from my original cd.  I get an error message "The program can't start because SA_ERROR.dll" is missing from my computer.  Try re installing the program to fix this problem.  Does it want me to reinstall the whole Simply program?

Where did you save it?  Did you save it to the program directory?  If not, try that as that is where the SA_Error.dll is located.
