2012 Simply Accounting

I was having problems opening my 2012 Simply program. The guy I spoke to using the online chat told me to delete the program, re-install it and then try again.... I keep getting the same message that says "Sage Simply Accounting 2012 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Inconvenience? Really? The online chat guy also said that the conversation would be emailed to my inbox to print....That was NOT the case. For what we pay for these programs, you would think the support staff would have better knowledge of the product they sell...very frustrated as now I cant do a thing with my companies...

    That sounds like my test of a backup (antique) machine in case our primary antique fails.  The install disk was version 2012,  but the database had been updated to the July version.  In my case, applying the updates before opening the company allowed the backup machine to open the files (then go back into the cupboard.)

    So a re-install with the same symptom sounds like the same problem.  The updates changed the structure of the database and the error message isn't smart enough to say so.

    Here are a few things to do:

    1. Uninstall 2012 Simply Accounting once more.

    2. Run your Windows Updates and make sure all your updates for Windows are completely up to date. Most important of those updates are anything to do with .Net and Framework. Those are the key words. Make sure you install ALL the important updates. Please NOTE you may have to run Windows updates numerous time to capture ALL the updates. This could take you an hour or more to complete if your updates to Windows have not been done regularly.

    3. Once you have successfully done ALL of the Windows updates then shut down your computer and start it up again.

    4. Reinstall 2012 Simply Accounting. Here is the link to the best place to download the file and it will be version D

    5. Once the install is completed (making sure you are updated to Version E) restart the computer.

    6. Open 2012 Simply Accounting and open the Sample Database to test the install.

    Question for you which version of Windows are you using? XP, Vista, Win 7 or Win 8?
