Sage 50 on a Mac through Parallels

I've used Sage 50 on an iMac with Parallels as the VM successfully for 3 years.

However, with Sage 2015 it will no install.

I even upgraded to Parallels 10 and it won't install.

But Sage 50 2014 works fine.

Any ideas for a solutions?

Unfortunately, Sage does not support Sage 50 Accounting on a Mac, including use with emulator software such as Parallels Desktop or Wine. However, we do have some customers that have had success using Parallels. Customers using Sage 50 Accounting on a Mac assume all related risks.

For Mac users, Sage now offers Sage One, a cloud-based solution that works for Mac users and PC users alike. You can find out more about Sage One from the following website: http://na.sage.com/ca/sage-one/.

Yes, I've read that elsewhere in the literature.  However, Sage 2014, 2013, 2012 all worked fine with Parallels.  As does every other piece of windows software I use on Parallels.

I think Sage is getting lamer and lamer:  see my post re Advance Database Check too.

Any luck with VirtualBox or VMware?  Probably either would work.

VirtualBox is available from Oracle for the low, low price of Free, but you have to source a copy of Windows to install onto the Virtual Machine.  Whether Parallels or another VM, it's still Windows.

VMware is a lot less free than Parallels, at about $200+, plus the cost of Windows.

BootCamp is of course free, but dual-boot is painful.

Or, you could go totally Mac-native with Connected or AccountEdge.  I haven't tried AccountEdge on a Mac, probably it's better than in Windows.

I'm not sure why Sage doesn't run on Parallels.  They seem to have used some newer .NET parts in the latest version.  Have you tried opening a support case with the Parallels support people?   What version of Windows do you have installed under Parallels?  Sage doesn't officially support XP after the 2014.2 release.

Hope that helps, please post back.

Is there a particular error that comes up during install?  Or will the program just fail to run after installing?

    It just says APPCRASH

    Randy,

I may try Virtual Box.  Or I will likely stick with 2014 version.

I don't think it is a Parallels issue given everything else Windows wise works flawlessly.

    I have Windows 7.

    Thanks for your ideas.

Apparently some anti malware programs are causing the 2015 setup processes to crash.... check to see if you can boot parallels without any security

Parallels is only a Virtual Machine host, so it really is running Windows 7.

With Windows' hardware abstraction it *should* run the same in any host, and any application that runs in one, should run in another.   In theory.

As a last resort, BootCamp for the Mac  lets you install Windows on another partition of the hard disk, but not run Mac applications simultaneously (unless you run them in a virtual machine, under Windows? blech).
