Rights to restore back up

How do I enable Simply so that my manager can restore a back up but still can not access or see all data?  So far, I am the only one who have access to everything, but so far, I am also the only one who can restore a back up.  I allow my manager to work with A/R, A/P and Inventory but prefer that she has no access to Payroll and Company Accounts.  By doing so, she also cannot restore a back up for me from my USB stick.  Is it possible for her to restore as well? Thanks.

  • I have not fully tested this, but as far as I know, the only time you are limited in restoring is when you are in the file.  If you are in the file, there is usually no need to restore it.  The only time I have seen this really needed is when a person is working at the office and at home and needs to move the files back and forth, and while usually that is not a person with limited rights, it is possible this is the reason???

However, if your manager needs to restore, get out of the file, open Simply and on the first dialog that indicates opening a sample file, creating a new file, restoring a file, etc. select Restore.  This should restore the file and allow the manager to open it with their userid and password that already has things locked out.  Please be careful about where the file is restored and why, so you don't overwrite live files unintentionally.

Now I also think there is some logic to the idea that if you can't trust them with payroll information, why would you want to tell them they have the ability to restore a backup from two months ago and restore over your current datafiles.  Whether they do this unintentionally or not, you still lose two months data entry.

    Hope this helps

  • Thank you Richard.  It's not that I don't trust my manager, it's more like I don't want her to know too much just yet. :)  My manager is very careful so I do trust that she knows to choose the newest file to restore.  I do work from home, and we also use Simply at the shop, therefore, I need to move things back and forth once a week.

I know what you are talking about because I've seen that dialog box before, but I just tested my Simply and somehow I don't see it come up anymore.  It just went straight into Simply without asking me to open, creat or restore.... I am going to play around a bit more to see if i can change the settings.  Thank you for your time.

  • Try View, Select Company Window at Startup.

  •  Thank you very much.  That's exactly what I needed to do.  Have a good afternoon/night!
