Are you an Accountant message keeps popping up

I'm getting a message every day "Are you an Accountant or Bookkeeper with fee paying clients?

There should be a "No" button:

Because, while the 'fee paying' part sounds attractive to me, the 'clients' part does not.

Starting next week, I'm going to that link and filling out the contact form every time I see the message.  I might even write a script.

I have a client that complained about this the other day. I took a look at the registry settings in the program and there is a key for SANAware but changing it does not force it to show up here.

I just tried calling Sage but they literally told me to call back later, so they must be very busy. Last week they offered to call me back (and did in a very short period of time).

Check your personal email for an image of my registry settings to see if they match. You may have a different key that might control the setting. If so, let me know.
  • Randy,

I tried a few switches but my version turns most off automatically and none that I tried popped up a message.

    THANKS!

Changing the registry key value for SANAware from -1 to 1 did make the message on opening the program go away on closing the program and re-opening it. (found under HKEY_USERS\<id>\SOFTWARE\Sage Software\Simply Accounting\2017\1) A button on the dialogue box would have been nice though.

I didn't notice the (now obvious) settings under Setup | User Preferences\Pop-ups were all checked. One of those may have switched it off as well.

In general, I think Sage could ease off finding new ways to pester customers and restrict capabilities, and instead make newer versions more capable.

I believe those popups only affect what comes through in the Message Centre for users.
  • Hello
Our engineers have created a tool that would need to be downloaded and run on your computer to remove the marketing popup that you see. You can get the tool and the instructions on how to run it on your machine from the following link

How to remove marketing messages from popping up

If you need assistance in getting the tool and running it on your machine you can give our support team a call at 1-888-522-2722 or our online chat team at http://www.sage.com/ca/support

We are here Monday - Friday from 6am pst to 530pm pst.

Why in the world did Sage add such a bothersome pop-up that needs a special tool to turn it off?
  • in reply to DZTaxes
The special tool part is because they introduced a bug into that version of the program and the tool was the easiest way to fix it. Most people do not know what a registry is let alone how to modify it as we were doing in this thread.

I'd say a three-day turnaround from reporting of the issue to validating and creating the tool to fix it and posting it on a Saturday is not bad. It shows they took the issue seriously.

Richard, it is now June, and I am still having the issue. Even if I fixed it ion my computer, i still need to go run this fix on the rest of my staff, who have stopped complaining abbot it because they just gave up.

I'm guessing their strategists believe that one-business license Editions of their software are in use for multiple businesses by people who just aren't aware of the Accountants' Edition.

I think it's the opposite - the old 'Find an Accountant' list of Accountants' Edition licensees read like a largely non-Accountant-like array of curio shops, lawn care outfits, and corner stores.

Perhaps some had a client or two, perhaps they got stuck with a set of books in a higher 'Edition' than they needed, and / or needed one or two Enterprise program features, but for only one book-keeper.

    DZTaxes,

Are you saying it was not corrected by the Apr release? I would have thought they would include the fix in that release.
  • in reply to DZTaxes
    Good Morning

This issue was addressed and has been resolved in the upcoming release for Sage 2017.2 July tax update. The pop up would appear if you open 3 different company files on the machine, to advise clients there is an accountants version available and the pop up was missing 2 buttons, one being an option to not display the message again.

    Thank You

Harjot, got it. I am opening 3 files, though it pops-up as soon as I open the first one. I am a SAN member, but I did not think Sage would appreciate me using my SAN license at the school where I am the controller. It wold be a huge savings if Sage was okay with it.

The tool did not seem to work for me. i am not going to spend too much time on it, as we should be getting the new update today or tomorrow.
  • in reply to DZTaxes

There is a problem with the 2017.2 update using recurring entries so I would hold off on installing it until there is new word about whether it will be fixed or not.  I haven't tested the issue myself yet because I only have it installed on one computer but there is a knowledgebase article on it.

I heard about it. I'm not sure if the bug out-ways the new features, ie the pay start date and linking files.
