You would not use the Shares account to record anything except for transactions involving shares.

You should have a Shareholder Loan or Owners Equity account which can be a liability or equity account.

That is where you would debit the dentist bill.

In the main Sage/Simply window go to Report then scroll down to Financial then over to General Ledger. From there select the equity accounts and also select the start and from dates - if you have previous years then you can also select the Fiscal Year to see if they contain any transactions for the equity account.

So no account has been set-up so if I set this as a Liability or Equity would the correct GIFI number be 1300 due from shareholders ?

I would presume so. I don't bother with GIFI nbrs so not that familiar with them.
