I have finished entering history but cannot leave history mode because the "Wage Expense linked account is not defined.
We do not use the payroll portion of Simply because we only deal with sub-contractors. Is there a way to override the payroll section?
I'd create a "wage expense" account and tick the "Omit from financial statements..." box, then create the link(s) - you may need to link to EI, CPP & WCB also. That should eliminate the error.
Then in your user preferences, you can untick payroll so it doesn't show on your desktop.

If you're not using Payroll now you can hide the Payroll module. Go to Setup, User Preferences and View and remove the check mark from Payroll. You should no longer see this journal from your home screen.
Not only with this hide the Payroll module and you will not be prompted about that linked account, it also keeps Payroll in history mode even after you've exited history. This is a good trick just in case you decide to use the Payroll module in Simply and need to enter YTD totals.
I have the same issue and the tip is unfortunately not working. I had the error for EI payable, EI expense, CPP payable and expense, Tax payable and Wage Expense. I create the accounts (that I will not use) and simply went to the linked accounts for taxes in settings and linked them. Unfortunately I don't know what the linked account is for the Wage Expense message. I'm stupped.
