Support tips for Sage 50 2015 update

Our Sage 50 support team has compiled the top three questions that are asked frequently during our product update peak season.

Question #1:

One of my workstations gets updated to 2015, but other workstations cannot because they can no longer open the Sage 50 data file that has been updated to 2015 format.

Other workstations are still using Sage 50 2014. Therefore, they cannot open data file which has been updated to 2015 format.

The easiest fix is to open the local sample data on those computers. Once Sage 50 2014 is opened with the sample company, if the workstations are connected to the internet, they will automatically download the 2015 full installer in the background. When you close Sage 50 2014, there will be a pop up window notifying you to install the update, which is Sage 50 2015. Once the updated version of Sage 50 is installed on those computers, there will be no problem to open the data file.

For your information, in Windows 7 and 8:

  • Default download location of Sage 50 update:

    C:\Users\Public\Pubic Documents\Sage Software\Simply Accounting\Download.
  • Sample company location:

    C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Simply Accounting\2014\Samdata\<your version>

Question #2:

Error: "The latest version of the Connection Manager is not installed on the database server, <server name>."

Clients often receive this message if their data files are located on a server. The workstation gets updated to Sage 50 2015, but the connection manager used in the server, on where the actual data file is located, is not updated.

The resolution is to install the most updated connection manager to the server. Please follow Knowledge Base article 10544 - Error: "The latest version of the Connection Manager is not installed on the database server, <server name>." at https://support.na.sage.com for instruction to do so.

For your information, the latest version of connection manager is version 4.0.

Question #3:

Error: "The Sage 50 Accounting data has been updated to a new file format and is now incompatible with this version of the software" when opening a company in EFT Direct

The message pops up if you have not updated you EFT program to 2015 after updating your Sage 50 program. You will also see this message if you upgrade your EFT program to 2015 but forget to set the EFT company profile to the new version.

The resolution is to update the EFT program to 2015 and set the EFT company profile to the latest version.
