Invalid employees when exporting T4s from Simply Accounting

1 minute read time.

As the requirement for electronically filing T4s has come into full play for companies with more than 5 employees, I wanted to take a minute to address the most common issues during export of the electronic T4s.

First, and covered elsewhere in the community, the link for the CRA's file submission page for those electronically filing has changed.  Due to no notice of this change we were unable to include it in an update, so we have written a Knowledgebase article on the topic of "404 error clicking "T4 Internet Filing" link to EFILE T4s" which can be viewed here.  This article includes a link to the new file submission page on the CRA's site.

But before you can submit a file to the CRA you must first successfully export the T4s from Simply Accounting.  During this process some users have come up against an error included in the below example:

In this case there is likely one or more employees who did not have any income/benefit reported for the year, so the gross pay was at zero.  To locate those employees, go to Reports menu, Payroll section then Employee - Summary, select the calendar year to display and run the report. Look for any employee that has no amount reported for that year.  Alternatively the PIER report can be used, run from the same section of the Reports menu, and the PIER report will similarly show an employee with no gross pay for the year.  Eliminate these employees from those selected during the T4 exportation and the error should be resolved.
