  • You do not have to create a new company.  You need to take your last back up and restore it in the new program. I don't think that you will have trouble upgrading.  However, the program had a drastic change in 2007.  If you run your general ledger before the conversion and after the conversion and they are different, you might want to get in touch with a Certified Consultant and have them bring it up gradually for you. Many of us have many years of programs on our machines.

Also, I strongly recommend that you turn back to period one (1) after the conversion. Go to File > "Data Verification".  Run this and do not cheat on the back up.  It will correct any misposted entries and errors you have had in previous versions. You should turn back to period about once a month and run "Data Verification".

  • In answer to your question about interfacing Peachtree 2009 with Excel the answer is definitely YES.

With regards to the question about converting your old Peachtree data to the new program even if the new program will be on a new computer, then I would suggest that you backup your data using your current version of Peachtree.  Later, install Peachtree 2009, again if on a different computer, then open Peachtree, click on FILE and RESTORE.  You will be asked to browse or locate your existing data backup followed by a screen where you will be prompted to select one of two options -NEW COMPANY versus EXISTING COMPANY.  You should choose NEW COMPANY.  The next screen will ask if you want to Restore Company Data or Custom Forms or BOTH - choose BOTH. This will restore both your data and forms.  Following the completion of the data restore the program will start the data conversion program. Follow the prompts and then check your data reports when finished, consistent with ShirleyB's recommendations.

  • Brian,

I just got done with the same procedure; upgrading from Peachtree v6 (1998) to 2009 Premium.  My job was made easier because we had (but had never used) Peachtree 2003 and 2006.  Because the file layout and database engine had changed I coverted 98 to 03 then 03 to 06 then 06 to 09.  Longest conversion was the 03 to 06, that took about 1/2 hour.

There may be easier ways to do it, but that worked like a charm for me.  And yes, while you could copy and paste into Excel, the "Excel" button in 09 is certainly much smoother.

  • Dear Steve,

This is Peter which read this your forum after 2 years. I have an BIG problem to seek for your advise.

I get an taxation reason that I need to re-active our Peachtree V6. (1998) 's data. The Journal.dat and Sortjob.dat with other files are good. However, PEACHW.exe was demage due to an virus. Since I cannot find the old installation files. Do you know where or how I can get this PEACH.EXE again ?

    Dear

  • Send an e-mail to support@pcosupport.com and state clearly the exact name of your Peachtree Version 6.0 product as there were more than one flavor.

  • Rich,

Thanks for your kind reply. On the version issue, since I cannot open the peachtree now, I cannot get the exact verions. Before our company have 2010 version, we have 2006, 2003 etc..

Is there any files inside the c:\peachtree\ that have the version information ?

here are some files for example :

    PAFAW.EXE  14-Oct-97 2:02pm  820KB

    PCHNCT.EXE 15-Jan-98 9:29AM  1,854KB

    PCHNCT.EXE 15-Jan-98 9:31AM 1,557KB

    \tutor\pchtut.exe 20-Feb-98 6:11PM 11KB

again, any file that contains the necessary version information ?

Note : I have only the PEACHW.EXE had demage by virus, all others are fine.

    -Peter

  • Peachtree Version 6.0 was issued in two flavors.  Peachtree Complete for Windows Version 6.0 and Peachtree Complete for Windows Time & Billing Version 6.0.  You can open the data file labeled VERSION.TXT and note the value listed within.  This file is located in your Company data folder.  The expected value will likely be a 4 digit number similar in layout to this example 09.00.  This value will tell me the exact Peachtree version and product update level that can read your data.

You will need to send me an offline e-mail, as the file or files that you need can NOT be posted to this forum and cannot be sent via standard e-mail. I will need to use a file transfer service or send a replacement CD.

  • Dear All,

The PEACHW.exe file (09.02) is recovered and the version runs smooth now.

    Thanks everyone.

    Regards,

    Peter
