BIE Export to Excel Template - Pivot table is lost

Starting with version 2013 (possibly earlier), and persisting through the latest MU of version 2014, we seem to have lost a valuable feature in BIE.

In the past, one can create an Excel "template" file that uses the data exported by BIE in the SourceInfo named range and have subsequent exports automatically update the "template".   For example,

1. Export BIE data to Excel

2. Add a pivot table to that Excel book

3. Save the file

4. Export BIE data to "Excel Template" and select the file created earlier

5. The pivot table would automatically be updated with fresh data.

Starting Version 2013, when you do #4, the pivot table is converted into values and the ability to pivot is gone.

I couldn't find anything about this in the KB.   This would seem like a major loss of functionality to me.    Is it a known bug?  Or is there a new procedure to get this to work?

Thanks,

John

I tried the steps you mentioned and did not have the issue (I tried in our in-progress version, but assume it would have the same issue). I also did this a different way, I think the way it should work - see if it works for you.

In your step 3, save the file as an excel template, instead of a regular excel file.

In step 4, you will have to use the "All Files" option to see the xltx file created in step 3.

I could pivot in both cases.

It could be your "in progress" version, but I can't get it to work at all in 2014 Jan 2015 MU.  Is the "in progress" version the upcoming Sage 500 2015 release?
