Attaching pdf's to a packing slip

A client inventories medical equipment in lots, and each lot has a Certificate of Authentication (in pdf format) that must be attached to any items shipped from that lot. So I was thinking to create an optional field in the lot record and placing the COA filename there. Then, when an item from that lot is sold, the crystal report would also print the certificate along with the packing slip. Likewise, these items may be part of a kit, so if a kit is old which includes one of these items, the COA would have to be printed. Any ideas
