Tip or Trick on inserting a field within TXT box if form design

SUGGESTED

Hi, So somewhere along the way Sage removed the ability to add a field into a txt box. This is killing me. I have made a bunch of forms a long time ago and I cannot modify them, I cannot rebuild them either because there is no way to do the insert. There is no longer a way to make a professional looking form from within the program, if I wanted to make this note a form within the program and insert a Vendor name here it would have to have a gap whereas before the text would grow to fit the name. I’m sure no one wanted to go backwards. If anyone knows a trick It would help. the old forms work great but wont let me save them anymore so I cant modify any of the words. Thanks John

    Hi John -

Could you clarify what forms & version you are talking about?

I read your post and assumed you were talking about printed forms designed in Crystal Reports.  Yet I am using Crystal Reports 2011 and I can put a field into a text box.

    Hi H,

I'm working within Sage 100 Contractor, and the program had the ability to add a field within a txt box but now it doesn't Thanks John

I add fields into text boxes all the time.  It is the icon between the calculator and the picture of a mountain with the sun.  It has an arrow pointing to the right.  You have to be in the text box first then click the icon.  A window will pop up with the field tables and you can select what you need.

if you create a txt box and type " the name of the vendor is " and then want to add the field for the vendors name you need a new box for that.

in an older version you were able to add the field within the original txt box and continue typing other information beyond the field and the txt would grow to fit it.

this was always  very primitive and would not allow txt wrapping but I was able to make it work out.

now there is no way to insert a field with in a txt box that I know of?

I think I misunderstood your issue. You always have to create a separate text box just for the coded field but you can line it up do it appears to be in the same text box when you print

I know that you have to do that know but it was not always that way.

I have a number of reports the old way and they still work correctly .

My broblem began when I tried to edit one.

I think I will set up an old version of master builder on a stand alone CPU and do the editing there then just copy the form on to my active drive.

Its silly that it would go backwards. I think that it was just missed in the programing when they updated the engine and someday they will fix it.

    John Del-

I will follow up with development on your question to see if something has changed in the functionality. And follow up with you once I get more information.

I had a problem at one time that Sage said was unique to me. They said it was something in the settings in my computer. Every time I would add a line to a report the entire report would lock up and I could not add or access fields. I would go to another computer in the office, login Sage as me and could modify the report all day long. I'm not sure if this is the same issue that you are talking about.

I had a second issue when they change the report program from Crystal Reports to their own report software. All of my reports that had a "Variable" field would no longer work. A variable field is a calculated field that will allow you to input information into the report just before it would run. Example: one of my variable field is my payment terms on a proposal. I needed to be able to input a dozen or so different terms on proposals so I created a variable field that will pop up when I ran the report. I have the opportunity to state the terms something like "50% deposit, Net 30 on invoice" after hitting the enter button on my variable field the report would complete it's run and the terms would be in it's place on the report.

I hope some of this helps you.
