Adding cost to serialized inventory

SUGGESTED

Question/scenario:  We are using Sage ERP Mas90 V 4.50.4.0

My company produces portable storage units.  I have a bill of materials that takes all of the individual pieces and creates a serialized inventory item.  Down the road the CPA decides we need to add cost to this serialized unit, labor, capitalized indirect costs, new expensive roof that has been added to the box.  Is there a way for me to add this cost to the box without removing the serialized inventory at the old cost and re-adding it with the new cost?  We are talking over 1000 serial inventory that need to be adjusted.

Any thoughts? Ideas? Solutions?  Anything would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Kim

There is not an easy way to do this. You could do a Bill of Material Disassembly, do a new production run and add in the additional cost.

Could you not just do an inventory adjustment and only apply the cost to the item and not adjust the quantity?  I know Sage 300 ERP can do this, but just a thought you might want to try.

He can but note he mentioned the large number of items this has to happen to.

It's the only way - break it up into 100 per adjustment, and bang it out. Done way more than that and way more often in my time.  1 to 2 days tops.  If that.

Must attach the Serial Number to each entry as well.  You can't really export the file, enter the costs, then import it, as the GL will be out of sync - I think - logically.  What do you think?

You'd still want to do it through an entry, as you would have to be able to attach the Serial Number to the item - unless you could do that through Excel too.

I would certainly try it on a dummy company and see how the system digests these types of entries.  Is it responsive?  Meaning, does a change in the Inventory make a change in the GL?  All questions a Sage 100 Certified Consultant should be able to answer.

    Anyone?

Yes a change in the Inventory changes the GL,   If I do a disassembly/reassembly the cost of the material changes and I end up with a variance.  So ok, I'm stuck doing the take out/back in like I thought I might have to.  Wanted to make sure someone didn't have another solution.

Also, the taking out / putting back in have to be separate entries.  Because the software will not let you use the same serial number (out & in) at the same time.

How does one export/import?  I don't believe I have the access to the module that makes it possible. :(

    Listen to Big Louie.

I'm just going by logic.  He's the expert.

    My realm is Sage 300.

Hope I didn't stear you wrong.

Just a thought . . . If you have Visual Integrator installed, and are familiar with it's use, you could export the serial item detail from the IM_ItemCost table (or simply extract it directly to Excel using MSQuery - Tier Type = 4 or just use the item number). Manipulate your prices in Excel, then use the same VI (into IM Transaction Entry - IM_TransactionHeader) twice - first to import into the adjustment out (negative quantity), update, then to adjust the same list in (positive quantity with updated cost).  Add a comment to reference the reason for the adjustments.  This should give you the proper G/L postings, and, if this ever needed again, the process is in place (you may want to document the process, but the VI and format is there).  BTW, the Excel extract might also help if you decide to do the entry manually.  Hope this helps.
