Upgrading 100 ERP

We are currently running v4.3 for sage 100.  We have been growing as a company and currently have 20 concurrent user licenses.

Issues: Our reports take forever to run.  GL Detail/Financial reports are the worst for our main company who's GL is very large. Running the report can take 10-20 minutes, sometimes longer.   We run into similar issues when doing our check runs from all our companies, even the small ones.  Updating the registers take some time.

We've recently updated our server's hardware, but that doesn't seem to help much.

Question:  will updating to 2014 improve any of the times?  Should we make the move to 2014 Advanced since we will more than likely require additional user licenses?  What are the benefits of Advanced to Standard 100 ERP?

    Hi,

I can assist with your question around reporting.  Sage Intelligence is the reporting tool and should be able to improve your run times with the use of filters and other features.  I recommend upgrading to 2014 since, from a reporting standpoint the improved in-memory reporting engine enhances report run times for the Designer reports.

    Thank you,

    Sandra

If you have 20 users and expect to add more I would STRONGLY suggest moving up from Standard to Advanced. Standard is a File Server where all the data has to come over the network to the work station which slows down processing. With Advanced it is a Client Server application and all processing is done on the server. This will greatly speed up the time it takes for register to update, plus it reduces data corruption.

As far as running the reports there will be minimal improvement. With Crystal the data is brought across the network to the work station before it is processed so no matter what version you are on the speed will be similar.  This from the very much missed manuals:

The SOTAMAS90 ODBC Driver does not communicate across the network the same way as an MAS 200 client communicates with the MAS 200 server in that it is not a server-based Windows Socket application. Unlike MAS 200, use of SOTAMAS90 requires a logon to the Windows NT server. Graphical forms and custom reports on MAS 200 (Advanced) are run in the same way as they are with MAS 90 (Standard).

First, I presume from your message that you are using Sage 100 standard (formerly MAS90).

Second, when you mention GL Detail/Financial reports I interpret that as you are talking about the "canned" GL Detail reports which you access off the Sage 100 - General Ledger - Reports menu.

Before really being able to give any type of advice I'd also be curious about the size of your data files. For example if they are 100 MB in size and you are experiencing real slowdowns then I bet you have some type of network issue. If they're 1 GB+ in size (aggregate) then you may have a need that Sage 100 Advanced could solve.

You should also think at this time about your future growth. Would moving from Sage 100 Standard to Advanced be more of a band aid approach?

Lastly, I assume that everyone using your system is on the same local network and you're not attempting any type of VPN access from a remote site unless you are also using a remote desktop solution like Citrix, Terminal Server.

    Benefits of Advanced vs Standard:

    - Faster - especially in the areas that you referenced

    - No added complexity to implement

Depending upon the answers to the above questions - Advanced may be the way for you to go. When I first started consulting on Sage I had a customer in a very similar situation. We put in Sage 100 Advanced (then MAS 200) and the speed issues were almost all removed.

You should talk with your Sage partners and have them take a closer look at the items mentioned above.

My opinion is that you have something wrong in your network configurations/settings or hardware.   What you describe is not a normal situation.

Upgrading is unlikely to solve your problem if the problem is in network configuration.   You really need to figure out what is going on before even considering an upgrade.

First thing I would consider is whether it is your virus scanning software might be doing it to you.  Try turning it off temporarily and see if  speed improves.
