Bank Rec Issue

Twice now In the last few months my bank rec has not tied to the GL.

Every transaction is accounted for in both the GL Detail and the Bank Rec, and I am 100% sure nothing posted to the GL Account outside of AP, AR, or GL Transaction Journal Entry.

When I do the bank reconciliation, after clearing all items on the Bank Statement, I am off by the same amount that the GL Account and Bank Rec is off.

I end up just changing the Current Balance in Bank Code Maintenance to match what is in the GL.

I think I remember something similar to this happening in older 3.x versions.  I never had this happen in 4.05, and am currently on Version 4.5

Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this?

Thanks

Joe

Are you saying that you can't make the bank rec balance  AND it does not agree to the G/L?

Or are you saying that the bank rec balances,  but the computed balance does not agree to the G/L?

    Exactly Tom

The GL and the Bank Rec do not match and when I try to do the Bank Reconciliation it is out of balance by the same amount.  The GL shows $2332.39 more than the Bank Rec.

However, every transaction in the GL is also showing in Bank Rec, and every transaction in Bank Rec is also on the Bank Statement.

I did try rebuilding the bank rec files, but it didn't change anything.

    Thanks

Kind of hard to pin it down without seeing the actual printouts but here are a couple of questions to narrow things down.

#1   Look at the general ledger balance for the checking account as far in to the future as you can go.

Go to bank rec | main | bank code maintenance,  what is the balance showing there?   Do the two numbers agree?   If not, there are two possibilities.   There is a transaction in the g/l that is not in the b/r or vice versa OR someone has manually changed the balance in bank code maintenance.  Note that it may not be in the month being reconciled.

#2  Go to bank rec | reports | bank recap report.   Print all transactions.   This will list transactions in date order.   Does the balance at the beginning of the month agree to the general ledger?   Do these numbers agree to your bank rec work from the prior month?    If not,  sounds like something was back posted to a prior month,  possibly to the g/l or to the bank rec (but not both).

I always recommend that when you finish up your bank rec that you print out and save four reports so that the questions above can be easily verified.

    1.  Bank reconciliation to end of month being reconciled with outstanding items only.

    2.  Bank reconciliation to end of month being reconciled with cleared and outstanding items.

    3.  Bank recap report to end of month being reconciled.

    4.  General ledger detail report for the month being reconciled (checking account).

All four of these reports should come up with the same ending #.   If not you have a problem that may show up next month.

    Tom,

That's what's strange, I checked all of this and everything is accounted for.  If I was new to BR and Mas I would think I was missing something, but I'm totally confident I've checked everything.

Guess there isn't a report you can run that will look for the amount of $2332.39?
